Peoples Archive, part of Web of Stories Ltd., is dedicated to filming for posterity the life stories of the great thinkers, creators, and achievers of our time. The people whose stories you watch on this site are leaders of their field, whose work has influenced and changed our world as we know it.

We believe these stories will be an invaluable resource for the future. Imagine watching Albert Einstein, Issac Newton, or Charlie Chaplin, talking about their life and work. Imagine Pablo Picasso or Jane Austen, Winston Churchill, or Marie Curie. The list is endless. Those stories could have added much to our understanding of the way these people thought and worked, and to the world in which their work was created. But beyond their value to scholarship they would provide something else - the living, speaking, image of each person. We could see such people - no longer as mythical figures, but alive - as alive as their work.

While those named in the list above are no longer with us, there are many of equal stature, in all professions, living and working today. We want to listen to and safely archive their stories, voices and presence, in order that they will not be lost. The parameters of the project are theoretically limitless. It is our intention to create a comprehensive and continually growing archive that will document all the people whose work has contributed to our world and our understanding of it.

How We Film The Stories
Each person has a story that only they can tell - the story of their life. It is this story that we want to record for Peoples Archive.

All stories need a listener. In collaboration with each speaker, an attentive listener is chosen to whom the speaker can talk with at ease. Rather than seeking a populist explanation of his or her work, we hope that each person will speak at a level of detail that would be understood by a colleague. The listener is usually someone working in the same field, allowing the speaker to talk at the highest technical level without having to explain their terms or references.

It is central to our work that our contributors are always in control of what they say and how they are represented. It is up to the contributor as to which subjects he or she wishes to speak about and for how long. Once filming is completed, their unedited stories are separated, titled, and placed on our website, and also on interactive DVD-ROMs. Copies of each DVD-ROM are also given to The British Library for public use.

The Future
Peoples Archive is constantly developing, and with time we will be adding new people to our existing categories, and also introducing new people in different fields of work. We are proud to be creating a perpetually growing archive of not only the individuals who have influenced our world with their work, but also to be recording for future generations the intellectual and creative history of our times.
