Babbage Net School (Gr. 11 & 12)
The Babbage Net School has ushered education into the 21st century by offering on-line, interactive instruction in a virtual school on the Internet . The school enables people to complete Junior and Senior High School courses without the need to commute to a school campus. Each course offered by the Babbage Net School embodies current, accepted course requirements covered in a traditional school course with the means of presentation modified to be delivered through a computer and enhanced whenever possible to take advantage of the material available on the Internet. The courses cover the full range of high school level subjects including enrichment courses, foreign language and Advanced Placement courses. The Babbage Net School also offers In-service courses for teachers in cooperation with SCOPE.
The classes meet in a "classroom" at a specific time. Only registered students are allowed into a class, but a demonstration classroom is available for visitors. The instructors are experienced and certified in the subjects they teach.
The Babbage Net School functions as a complete school providing facilities usually found in a traditional school setting. Obviously, the facilities are not physical rooms; however, they function the same as the physical counterparts. The rooms in the school include the Main Office, Guidance Office, Library, Bookstore, and classrooms. Each of these rooms serves the same purpose as the same room in a traditional school. For example, the Main Office is where someone would go to ask questions, send mail or fill out an application. Students go to the classrooms to enter their classes, find the course materials, and attend the live classes.
The Babbage Net School is not a replacement for schools. It is an alternative means for students to receive instruction in those circumstances where alternative instruction is necessary or desirable. For instance, school districts have a number of students that require home instruction because they are not able or allowed to attend regular classes. Through the Babbage Net School a district can provide interactive class instruction and individual help through e-mail correspondence with the teacher at a lower cost than sending a teacher to the students home. And the students are no longer isolated at home. They now have the capability to interact socially and academically with other students. Through a growing list of enrichment courses, the Babbage Net School is also making it possible for students to take courses not normally offered in their school. Finally, parents that choose to educate their children at home now have a way to ensure that their children are getting thorough instruction by enrolling at the Babbage Net School.
Technology now makes it possible to deliver instruction over the Internet. Access to the Internet is reaching the point where it can be considered universal. The computers needed to reach the Babbage Net School are affordable and common. The Babbage Net School will not and should not replace the traditional school, but these advances enable Babbage to help school districts expand their course offerings, enhance the instruction given to a portion of their students, and meet their budget requirements.

Are the classes accredited?
Yes. The Babbage Net School provides instruction. All courses provided by BOCES are accredited and therefore the Babbage Net School offerings are accredited. When a school district accepts a course it is with the understanding that the curriculum, instructor and requirements of the course meet their standards. Then the course is accredited through the school.
